The blog of photographer Kim Ayres

Seasons of Galloway

Every now and again I post photos on this blog that are not of people.

Although portraiture, performances and events are how I make my living, it's not unknown for me to point my camera at a leaf hanging off a twig, or sunlight hitting a mossy branch.

Over the past couple of years I've built a collection of images I really like, but have had no idea what to do with them. Whenever I have posted such images here I've always received comments or messages from people asking if they are available as prints, but the practicalities of printing, packaging and posting has been something of an obstacle.

However, last month I created a site on Zenfolio to allow owners who stable their horses at James Ewart Racing to purchase prints of the photos I take there. The advantage of setting this up via Zenfolio is there are fulfilment options - meaning people can order various size prints and they are printed, packaged and posted out directly from their suppliers and to a high standard.

With the site already there it seemed an ideal opportunity to put up my collection of non-people photographs too.

Below are a couple of examples from the collection, but to view the full set, head over to http://kimayres.zenfolio.com/seasons

You make it sound like so much fun, I forget that you make a living doing this!

Would you like to photograph any super-super-famous person / people?

That's an excellent idea.
Those beautiful photos deserve as wide an audience as possible.

Guyana-Gyal - if you know any, then please send them my way! There's a point you reach in photography where people judge you not on the quality of your photos, but WHO you've photographed. Having a famous person or two in your portfolio can make a big difference to how people see your work.

If you're asking which super-super-famous person I'd like to photograph, I think it would have to be someone older who has more life and character in their face. Mick Jagger or Keith Richards, for example, or Dame Maggie Smith would be another :)

Pat - thank you :)

I used to think that a photographer would choose a theme, a story, and tell it with his photos, then the world goes ooh and aah. But I guess, just as with music, books, art, it's tough getting a break in photography. And you just have to keep going, going, until.

I wish I knew a famous person. I'd send him / her to you immediately.

Somehow, I guessed it would be a musician you'd mention.

Guyana-Gyal - super-super-famous people might be good for the portfolio, but I'd most like to photograph friends I haven't yet managed to. So I'll be looking for an opportunity to capture you with my camera :)
