Now We Are 6

When I was One,
I had just begun.
When I was Two,
I was nearly new.
When I was Three
I was hardly me.
When I was Four,
I was not much more.
When I was Five,
I was just alive.
But now I am Six,
I'm as clever as clever,
So I think I'll be six now for ever and ever.

- A.A. Milne

It's just about the 6th anniversary since I began blogging. Back then, I was still in my 30s, I didn't have CFS/ME, and my intention was to become a writer (photography was still just a hobby).

But it's not only my world which was so very different. Way back in the dim and distant past of August 2005...

YouTube had only started up 6 months earlier

Facebook was only accessible if you had a university email address.

6 megapixels was considered quite a large sensor for a digital camera.

High Definition TV wasn't about in a commercial format, and Blue Ray was only a prototype in Japan.

There had only been 2 "Saw" movies, 4 Harry Potter films, and James Bond fans were horrified that a blonde actor (Daniel Craig) had been given the role of 007.

Not only did the iPad not exist, but neither did the iPhone

There were approximately half a billion fewer people on the planet.

In the intervening time, I have written over 700 blog posts and received in excess of 150,000 visits to this site.

And I'm regularly visted by some of the nicest, warmest, most wonderful people on the Internet (yes, that means you - take a compliment when you're given one)

Congrats! Isn't it strange when you try to think back how you came to know someone in blogland. All I remember about you is I used to read your comments and assumed you were a girl - no avatar then.
I'm so glad to have met you.

Blimey! Well, happy blogging anniversary. It makes the mind boggle loking at your facts, and wondering where we'll be in another six years.....

And of all the blogs I could've "stumbled" across, yours is one of my favorites!

Congrats! Here's to as many more years times six that you can stand. :)

Very cool. I don't think I started following your blog until year 2 was almost over, but I did go back and read almost all your posts. And yep, all but one was worth it. Hold it, that was just a joke!

Congratulations... six years seems so long but really just a blink of the eye !
I just started my blog May 2009 and it just seems like yesterday... time zooms by so fast.
So glad I found your blog through Pat's.
Many more blogging years to come.

cheers, parsnip

Gillian - thank you :)

Pat - you weren't the first to make that assumption, and you won't be the last. But I'm glad you weren't disappointed when you discovered the truth :) I'm so glad to have met you too, Pat!

V - sometimes it feels the world is speeding up at an incredible rate.

Lynne - one advantage of having been blogging for 6 years is it means I've had more chance to meet wonderful bloggers :)

Debra - :)

Chrissie - amazing isn't it?

Hope - thank you - your comments and support over the years has been/ is greatly appreciated :)

Savannah - I so look forward to that day :)

LegalMist - not just events, but the culture has been changing with the technology too. The way many people interact has fundamentally shifted

Carole - I was wondering which of the 230 or so were worth the effort! :)

Falak - Glad to have known you too! I have no plans on stopping anytime soon :)

Parsnip - time did used to zoom by, until I got the CFS, now it moves at a much slower pace. Trying to think back to May 2009 feels like at least 4 years ago.

However, in cosmological terms, our existence is so short as to be completely insignificant. If you're interested, then take a look at my post from a few years ago called, "Total Perspective Vortex"

Ah, you are one year older than me in blog years, and you've more than doubled my hit count.

Congratulations on sticking with it for so long and so successfully. (here from Savannah's site).

Hi, Kim! Haven't been over in a while - My computer died and took most of my links with it (hate when that happens!). However, I saw your FB post about your stint as Artist in Residence and decided to find you again. I just love your photographs - so real. I am happy to see that your artistry (and it definitely IS artistry) is being taken seriously and celebrated!

Happy anniversary to you and Maggie! I heartily agree with the 16th being the Pizza Year. Wish we'd thought of it when we hit our own 16th!

Congratulations, my friend, on all of your accomplishments!
