Equipping for the Future

My past self was over-protective of me, and I've been restricted because of it.

So I've decided to equip my future self so he can go off into the world and have a lot more fun.

I had to look up the definition of quip. :)

Thank you for pointing out that typo, Allen - it has now been corrected :)

I'd like to congratulate your Present Self while telling your Future You that he has a lot to look forward to! :)

Pat - giving up pointless fear is quite possibly the best of all things to give up :)

Hope - I just hope he appreciates all the hard work I do for him...

Your welcome Kim. Actually at time (my 5am) it made sense as quip means to "make a witty observation". I just thought it was another one of those words that was lost between there and here in the Atlantic Ocean.

Carole - :)

Allen - "Quipping" for the future sounds more like a stand-up comedy routine :)

Adila - :)

Hindsfeet - you're welcome :)

Fresh Garden - thank you :)

Pat - I can't change that, all I can do is be more adventurous :)

Guyana-Gyal - that's what blogging is :)

lets meet for coffee one day in the future and they we'll ride a roller coaster in Paris Disneyland. My future rich me says to the future adventurous you. LOL

Or maybe one day when I make it to Scotland we can just meet for that cup of coffee...sometime in the future.

How are you preparing the future you, Kim?

Now I'm intrigued. I wonder what the inspiration behind this epiphany was?

Is there some kind of attachment you buy that does this?

Katie - now there's an idea... ;)

Debra - :)

Lynne - you get rich, I'll get adventurous and you can pay. Sounds like a good deal to me :)

Helen - through a series of revelations and understandings about how most of the reasons we hold back from being freer with our lives comes from other people with their own agendas. I think there are very few of us who can look back on our lives and not wish we'd had a bit more fun

Mary - I'm currently in a phase of looking at how I react to various things in a way of either combatting the CFS, or at least lessening the psychological impact of it. And in this case, like so many revelations, it came out in a conversation where I said it to Maggie, then paused and thought, "bloody hell, it's true..."

Michael - I think you can download the app...

Sounds like a cunning plan. I've just come back from some time on Dartmoor pondering life and why some cows sound like they're being abused when they moo, and had a similar epiphany. I use up far too much energy being afraid of things I can't control and miss out on heaps of fun because of it. I can't wait to read about what you get up to. Me? I decided to use my energy posting pictures of cats in hats on my blog. It made me laugh. Em x

I think spending energy on things that make you laugh is one of the best ways to use it :)

Would you say your past self's over-protectiveness served as preservation while your subconscious self fine tuned it's "gut" feelings to be able to take over in a more flexible model of action?

My not-protective-enough past self has been duly chastised and my thoughts have simmered quietly a few years about how to do so without "losing my soul"...

so what sort of choices, actions, etc. count for "equip[ing] my future self so he can go off into the world and have a lot more fun"?

Ruth - there's an oft repeated saying which feels truer and truer as time goes by - as we get older and look back on our lives, we tend to regret the things we didn't do more than the things we did.

Sure I can cringe, wince and sigh at some of the things I've done in my past, but the things that cut much deeper are where I felt I wasn't true to myself - where I held back out of fear or embarrassment, or someone else's idea of what I should or should not do. As such I see my past self as over-protective to the point of stiffling.

Equipping myself for the future is about not allowing fear, or fear of embarrassment, or fear of failure to get in the way of actually having a bit more fun and enjoying life :)
