Part of that comes from the high standard of the selection process. On average, they accept only 5% of all the images submitted – and that's despite the fact people are putting forward their best work. Around once a year they bring out a book with a selection of the images. This year it’s called “No Words” and they are only printing 2222 copies of it. It contains 220 amazing photos and I’m delighted to say they have included one of mine.

Paying €89 for anything, beautiful or otherwise, that does not also render me unable to safely operate a motor vehicle is not heart smart as far as I am concerned.
Besides, it is illegal to even think about engaging in Euro-denominated commerce in the Canadas, much less actually doing so.

I love books with beautiful photographs. I have some [not expensive] on our coffee-table and, every now and then, I stop whatever I'm doing, sit and look at the pictures. I feel peaceful, reflective, inspired, afterwards.

Liz - I haven't heard of the book. I'll maybe keep a look out. However, one of the side effects of the ME/CFS that has not left me has been I cannot read more than a couple of pages of anything before my brain disengages and starts turning to mush. It means a single book can take me months to read, and the backlog of ones I have ready to go is getting bigger by the month :/

Guyana Gyal - do you ever take photos yourself? You have such an eye for people and detail in your writings, it's difficult to imagine you wouldn't also be able to translate some of that into photography :)

ReplyDeleteRab - I submit fairly regularly - unfortunately my style of photography doesn't often match up to what they are looking for. My acceptance rate is pretty much exactly the average ratio of about 5%, so you can work out how many photos I've submitted since I joined...
