Listening to the inner voice

.
I think we all have an inner voice, deep inside, which will guide us if we can just shut out all the noise and clutter from our lives. If we listen to our inner voice, it will always tell us the right thing to do,” said a friend recently.

So I stuck on a DVD for the kids downstairs and retired to the bedroom to sit in quiet contemplation.

What truth would my inner voice reveal?

It didn't take long for my inner voice to make itself heard. In fact I was somewhat surprised by just how loud and intense it was.

According to my inner voice, what I’m missing in my life is a big bar of chocolate...

  1. Well there it is, my friend, you found it, the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything...and all because you took the time to listen to your gut.

    ; )

Heard someone once say (in this vein) "Our gut always knows, the problem is we ask our head what it thinks about what our gut knows."

    Loved that.

Happy day over there, you and your chocolate bar.

    : )

  2. Chocolate is very soothing, is it not? However, do you allow yourself those treats now that you've trimmed down so much?

I've not listened to my inner voice on a number of occasions and that got me into situations that were difficult to get out of, but chocolate, unfortunately, was not the answer in any of those.

  6. Inner voices can be deceptive. Perhaps what it said was that you are to be the jig czar of rock strut. So instead of eating you should be dancing. You never know.

I quit listening to my inner voice when it told me to take up bungee jumping.

  9. Ha Ha!
Talking of aids which chocolate certainly is - to get you through the day- did you once try tranquillisers? And can you recommend one?

  10. My inner voice is telling me to get some pineapple. That is what I shall do, you don't want to upset it. :)

  12. I suppose that's a start. Are you still on your famine regime?

  13. Chocolate is one of the most beautiful words on the planet.

    I say embrace beauty. ;)

  14. Something deep in my soul wholeheartedly agrees with that statement. You, sir, are onto something here.

  15. Hindsfeet - unforunately I cannot trust my gut - it lies to me with extreme prejudice. When I listened to it regularly I was 110 pounds heavier

Ponita - I'm afraid chocolate is one of those things I cannot have as it acts as a trigger food, setting off extreme and uncontrolable cravings

Savannah - so good that once I start, I cannot stop

    Adila - always :)

    Danielle - :)

Se2 - unfortunately I have many inner voices, most of which are in conflict with the others

Carole - I'd love to try bungee jumping - strutting & dancing I have to say have far less appeal...

    Anez - Dark, always :)

Pat - not tried tranquillisers. I might suggest smoking pot (not something I've done for over 20 years I hasten to add), but your chocolate cravings would go through the roof...

    Jasmine - mmmMMMmmm... pineapple...

Jane - and sometimes they can lead us to ruin :)

Eryl - not to the same super strict extent. I've reintroduced fruit and don't stress if I occasionally have some of the other things I was avoiding

Hope - but what if that beauty will trigger a reaction that will result in gaining 100lbs within a few months?

    Deidra - :)

  16. My inner voice, with a soft Scots accent, would ask if I'd care for some more tea?

My name is Alan and I'm a chocaholic.

  17. I would like to have a dream about bungee jumping where I don't measure the chord wrong and end up in the river on rocks!

My inner voice, usually late in the evening when I'm settled in my big chair reading, tells me to go downstairs and get a dish of ice cream. Luckily I'm too lazy to do that.

  18. Hi Kim,
Someone recently referred to the noise and clutter that goes on inside one’s head as the dialogue of a chattering monkey. It’s not easy to turn it off and tune into one’s inner voice at will.

Did you indulge your subconscious by eating a bit of chocolate?

  19. Oh, what a very wise inner voice you have! Never ignore it.

  20. I like your conclusion! And...I can completely relate to your previous post.

  21. sounds like an inner demon, maybe your possessed, lol

  22. Alan - I don't need an inner voice with a soft Scot's accent, as my wife has one :)

Charlene - when our inner voice clashes with our inner apathy, there can be only one winner...

Litzi - no I didn't, because that inner voice has no self control and no understanding of the absolute havoc it causes to my struggles with food

Fay - this one is not on my side, I'm afraid...

    Allen - :)

Graham - possessed by a chocolate demon... that sounds scarily accurate

    Snoble24 - :)

  23. if i try listening to my inner voices then i end up having a headache if one of my inner voices says something then the other one comes up with something to contradict it or maybe i am confusing my mind with my inner voice ....

  24. Shobhana - welcome to my ramblings :) And yes, I think there is a fundamental difficulty in knowing which inner voice to listen to - especially if you suffer from any kind of addiction or compulsive behaviour...
