Who said trouble always comes in threes?

.
The right side of my jaw, cheek and lips are itchy and tingly. Unfortunately the skin is still numb, so I can’t scratch them with any effect. Hopefully in another hour or so the injection from my visit to the dentist this morning, and subsequent filling, will have worn off.

Of course, when it does, I’ll then discover just how much damage I’ve done to my lower lip when I accidentally bit it, and the inside of my cheek, which I realised I’d been chewing for a while, assuming it was a piece of bread I was eating with the soup I had for lunch.

It’s been a bit of a hectic morning as we’ve had the senior nurse practitioner from the health centre out to see Meg, who is feeling very unwell and has probably gone down with whatever Rogan has had. Fortunately Rogan now seems to be in slightly better spirits and we’re pretty certain the worst has passed of his illness, swine flu or not.

We’ve also had the landlord visiting with his toolbox as last night the toilet flush stopped working, and a tap which has been dripping for quite some time decided just to gush and not allow anyone to be able to turn it off at all.

I’ve got a slightly tickly cough a mild over-all achiness in my body and am hoping it doesn’t develop into anything worse. Likewise Maggie’s general cold-like symptoms.

They say trouble always comes in 3s. I’ve never understood that: in my experience it always comes in 17s

  1. Sounds like you have it all going on matey. I hope the family gets better soon and you pass on whatever is going round.

Were you dribbling a lot from the injection?

  2. I avoided the dribbling, but forgot every time I went to spit - suddenly it would shoot sideways and miss the sink

  3. Isn't life just fun and interesting?

  4. I say, just hang a "Quarantined" sign on your door, everybody crawl into their respective beds, and the hell with everything! Face the world in a week and everything should be fine! LOL!

    Hope everyone feels better soon!

When it rains is pours - or in your case - it gushes!

  5. Bummer!

Dare I say "Things can only get better"! Wellness and good plumbing to you all!

  8. Chewing your lip sounds like stress to me and who would wonder. Both my grandson and I occasionally use a gum shield in bed (fitted by one's dentist) to avoid me biting my cheek and T from his jaws clamping shut. Think about it.
So glad Rogan is on the mend - I was happy to get his e-mail and please give Miss Meg a hug and big smacker from me.

  9. Well, as they always say under these circumstances you are enduring, things can only get better. At the very least, they will change and stay interesting. Is that a silver lining? My husband and I are getting over the muck, whatever it was.

  10. AS they say sometimes you are the windshield and sometimes you are the bug. It sounds like you are the bug this week.

  11. Jennifer - excitement! Adventure! A jedi craves not these things!... Yoda

Pat - crawling into bed is all very well, but there are a lot of sheets that need changing too...

Mapstew - "that which does not kill you makes you..." more vulnerable to the next attack

    Falak - if only...

    Patrick - thank you :)

Pat - I'm glad Rogan sent you an email. I forwarded your one on to him, but he didn't tell me he'd replied. I'll have to ask him what he wrote

Sarahlah - unfortunately, experience has shown there's no guarantee things can only get better...

Suz - reminds me of the old joke: "What's the last thing to go through a bug's mind has he hits your windscreen? - his arse"

  12. Sometimes "trouble" is just a long, dull ache that you have to wait out or as my astrological side puts it, "My moon is in feces."

  13. ouchouchouch! it's a drag when one of the kids are sick, it's a pain when both of them are down, but when mom AND dad aren't well and the house is in the pits...well, sugar, it ain't a good thing at all! keeping good thoughts for EVERYONE'S recovery and for quiet working plumbing/water works! ;~D xoxoxox

*sending y'all a big pot of reallyreallyreally good chicken soup!*

  14. I don't want to wish my life away, but I will be happy to bid 2009 adieu.
Troubles for our family have come in droves.
I hope you all feel better soon, Kim.

  15. other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play? is an American adage that's apropos for your current travails.

  16. thats been my experience as well, in fact if we get two bad happenings in a row we just brace ourselves for the pending storm.

Hope you all feel better soon and that your cheek recovers quickly

  17. I'm sorry, for what that counts, that you and your family are getting lots and lots of troubles. :(

But I did have a thought, somewhat humerus and very nerdy, perhaps troubles don't come in threes, but in primes?

  18. well i hope you feel better soon. hope you didnt hurt the cheek to bad

  19. Yikes! As a fellow dental sufferer, I've done the "what the heck have I been chewing on for so long?" number when I'm still numb. They still use the spit sink there? My Doc has this thing which feels like a combination of a straw and vacuum cleaner: sucks the stuff out of your mouth. Yeah, double yuck!

Hope ALL of you are feeling better very soon! At least you know we'll be here to check on you. :)

  20. Sounds like my week!

In my experience, when it comes in 17s for me, it seems to also for many of the people around me.

If someone who lives in Scotland while I live in New Mexico, USA can be considered "around me," then this just proves it.

  21. Trouble doesn't come in threes, it comes in big chunky clusters. I'm so glad Rogan is doing a bit better. And that you didn't panic. I'm sorry for the other crap you have to deal with. Hang in there. Thinking of you and your family.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I believe the phrase is, Other than that, Mrs. Kennedy, how did you like the parade?
It's funny to have everything happen at once. When it happens to someone else, that is.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ahhhh! the pouring rain eh? It does always seem to all snowball at once. Illness always compounds life's troubles. It is just much harder to deal with things when you or someone in the house is not feeling well.

We all got sick here (except the baby which is some wonder!) and 3 weeks later we all still have lingering coughs and sniffles. We made it through a blizzard and a power outage as well as some good ol' family drama.

It is much nicer to be reporting from the other side. Wishing you all good health and hoping you will be here to join me on the side of wellness soon!

  24. Hey Bearded One - at 17 you are not even trying!!! Our record (and it still stands) is 23 things going wrong in two days!! Yeah, you're just a novice at this bad stuff. Am sorry to hear that you and the family are unwell...(thought I'd better say something to show I'm not completely cold hearted).
Heh Heh - the word verification is waffingly (ie: a comment that waffles?????!!!) sigh

  25. Fresh air and golf... I've said it before! As for the hurty bits inside of your mouth?

Pain my friend, is merely weakness leaving the body.

Huh! Scottish in everything bar the true grit. Can I get you another wee shandy fae the bar Kim oul pal?

  26. Och Kim, ye puir wee soul, as my grandma would have said. Sorry it's been the wars for you lately. Hope all of you shuck this whole bug off quickly and easily.

  27. Hope you and your family feels better soon. Take care.

  28. Goog Gordon! Batten down the hatches, man, and don't come out till the blight has passed. (Hope you're feeling better soon.)

  29. Trouble...it's basically the only thing we're guaranteed on our short little trip here. Don't let anyone fool you with numbers...I haven't had a "trouble trio-pack" in ages...mine seems to also come in the Wholesale store Jumbo-Pack variety...Hope your cheek heals soon from its stand-in as baked goods!

  30. Jayne - yes, and Jupiter is up the creek and Saturn is without the paddle...

Savannah - mmmMMMmmm... virtual chicken soup...

Debra - sometimes you get years like that. 1998 was one I never ever ever wish to repeat if I'm reincarnated a billion times over. Fortunately, by comparrison, our troubles are much more insignificant

Litzi - nice phrase, I like it :)

    Cannwin - thank you :)

Real Girl755 - you might be on to something. My brother-in-law used to be a maths teacher, I might just consult him :)

    Snoble24 - thank you :)

Hope - we can't afford to go private with the dental treatment, so I don't get my feet massaged while having a filling either...

Pollinatrix - notions of space and time are completely distorted when it comes to Blogging. I can exchange messages quiker with you than I can with our friend who lives 4 miles away and isn't online.

Erika - we'll survive. We've been through (considerably) worse. I just needed to let off steam :)

Fay's Too - along with Litzi's comment above, it looks like there could be a few variations on the phrase :)

Midnitefyrfly - so pleased you made it through - hope to join you soon :)

Helen - well, 23 is a prime number too, so perhaps Real Girl755 is on to something...

    Jimmy - shandy? Now there's a drink I've not thought about since I was 15 :)

Tiffin - dinnae fash yersel, we'll be fine hen :)

    Respectfully Yours - thanks :)

Gillian - as will life... (sorry, brief moment of morbidity there)

Mimi & Tilly - I'm surprised no one has started selling large painted-red-cross stickers for doors yet

Sami - I wonder what ever happened to good old fashioned, individually wrapped troubles?

  31. Why don't good things come in threes? That's what I'm wondering. For instance, why can't I win the lottery three times in a row?

    ReplyDelete
  32. You're right--trouble does come in 17s. 3s are just half of a six-pack.

    Get well, all of you.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 17s is pretty bad! We usually have it in the 8-10 range, though when the kids were younger, we hit 20 occasionally. Hope things improve!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm with the question of why good things don't come in bunches! I wish you and yours healing and comfort. I'm reading this all over the internet! But the dentist on top of it all? Yecchhh!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Apparently, you are surrounded. Inside and out.

Since the only way out is through, I recommend getting through with a heating pad and those tissues with the aloe in them.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hope you're feeling better by now. Do take care and I hoe the rest of yours are feeling better as well.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Considering what you are enduring I think coming in 3's to be a blessing. Just imagine another 14 mishaps on top of all that? Phewww! Feel better!

  38. "Of course, when it does, I’ll then discover just how much damage I’ve done to my lower lip when I accidentally bit it, and the inside of my cheek, which I realised I’d been chewing for a while, assuming it was a piece of bread I was eating with the soup I had for lunch."

This is why I love you Kim, you are funny. I know chewing your lower lip isn't funny but I had to literally LAUGH OUT LOUD.

  39. Alice - good things come in much more than 3s - my coffee was good this morning; my coffee was good this afternoon; I didn't die today etc. However, mega-super- once in ten thousand lifetimes things are much less likely to happen in threes

Pat - my guess is she never went through rationing :)

Charlie - more of a taster sample, really

Mary - things are definitely on the mend now, I'm pleased to say

Starrlife - good things do come in bunches, we just don't tend to notice them.

Lisa - we've been meaning to get one of those microwave heating things for years, but still haven't got round to it

Stinkypaw - we're all on the mend now thanks :)

Tgoette - the first three are usually just the warm-up...

    Ron - :)

  40. I am of the opinion that people who say trouble happens in 3's can't count. Or maybe they are just lucky.

    ReplyDelete
  41. In my experience trouble comes in five hundred and ninety two squared :-) But doesn't it make you appreciate those sparse moments of pure perfection all the more??
