As I sit here in not one, but two fleeces, the smell of dusty heating is beginning to pervade the house. It is the distinct aroma that occurs when the radiators are turned on for the first time in a long while.
Forget Autumn, Winter has arrived.
Behold: September in Castle Douglas

Yes I did get a wee bit damp taking the photo
.
You look like you were almost at ground level when you took that picture (with a snorkel I hope). Never mind at least it wasn't far from home for a change of cloths and a mug of coco
ReplyDeleteSandy
In that weather, Sandy, I wasn't going to wander more than 30 yards from home!
ReplyDeleteA trifle moist, then. And not as enjoyable as a moist trifle.
ReplyDeleteVery nice photo. I would miss autumn though. Perhaps you should get a rain check.
ReplyDeleteHow do you survive it?
ReplyDeleteI would be loco missing the sun and warmth!
ugh...I hate that smell of burning dust...it gives me a headache...bah humbug
ReplyDeleteDang! That looks about two weeks ago here.
ReplyDeleteI know that smell you describe. Nice picture.
ReplyDeleteWhat are your seasons like? When, or how long, is summer?
It is still blazing here in Louisiana. I look forward to the fall.
Ah, yes, the smell when the heat is on for the first time of the season...
ReplyDeleteSeptember in NE Ohio is usually pretty nice----much of the year we have pretty gray skies, though.
I always liked the smell of new heater. Now, I just get the clanking of radiator pipes.
ReplyDeleteInteresting picture. I'd love to see more of Scotland.
ReplyDeleteConan - you are clearly not a man to be trifled with
ReplyDeleteCarole - ba-dum tish!
MaLady - by becoming a martyr to gloom
Jessie - I guess we should dust a bit more often - hahahahaha hahahahaha hahahahaha... er... *cough*
FLG - aren't you in Spring yet?
Jupiter's Girl - winter is about 2 months longer in Scotland than England, and Summer is about 2 months shorter
Debra - to be honest, September is usually a lot nicer here too
Archivalist - a new heater? Don't think I've ever smelled one of them before
Nancy - Scotland's not always like this - sometimes it drizzles too...
Welcome to my ramblings and thank you for taking the time to coment :)
We're heading into the hot season here. DREADFUL. My skin feels like it's peeling off --well, it is!
ReplyDeletexxx to you and the family

Good shot. I've been wondering why I live here, and can't think of a single reason, except I can't afford to move.
ReplyDeleteKanani - If only we could trade weather for a fortnight...
ReplyDeleteEryl - not even the Moffat Toffee shop down the high street?
It's been pelting down here for weeks. The other day, just as I'd pegged out a whole line full of laundry, it started chucking down rain. I ran outside and pulled everything off the line. No sooner had I gotten back inside the house than it cleared right up and the sun came out. I ran back out and pegged everything out again like an idiot. In twenty minutes, the rain was back.
ReplyDeleteI still love rain. I'd just like a little less of it when I'm doing laundry.
And the Moffat Toffee Shop is a great reason for being here! Just wish they'd give out free samples.
ReplyDeleteMary - the curse of drying the laundry - a well known problem for anyone raised in the UK
