Rain didn’t completely stop play

.
The Galloway Children’s Fayre in Kirkcudbright* yesterday was not unexpectedly wet. The occasional light drizzle progressed to light drizzle interspersed with heavy drizzle, then heavy downpours, then torrential downpours.

However, by the time rain completely stopped play, Rogan had sold all his slices of cake, all but 2 of his scones, all but one piece of tablet, all but one square of chocolate & peanut butter, and about ¾ of his cookies.

The gazebo kept the rain off Rogan and his customers, as did a hastily improvised wall on the windward side, made from a spare plastic tablecloth.

By the time I took this photo, he’d already sold half his wares

Meanwhile, in a dry moment, Meg found a tall man to show her how to twirl ribbons. Also note the superbly built gazebo in the background – we were the envy of the drenched and gazeboless couple set up next to us, attempting to sell bubble blowing gadgets.

*Situated at the camel-toe of Scotland – check maps for visual evidence - find Kirkcudbright, then keep zooming out until you notice

  2. Well most of those things I don't have to worry about for a year or 2 yet.

At this age they're great - old enough to be a helparound the house without needing a constant eye on, and young enough not to want to borrow the car :)

  3. Hope the fund is growing apace. It does my heart good to see a young man doing it for himself. Pass me a slice please.

  4. Another job well done for Rogan, I wish I could have come over but I was searching for plate stackers.

Lucky Meg, next time I come over do you think she'll teach me how to twirl ribbons?

  5. Meg's wellies are class!

Well done to Rogan. God, how I would love some home-baking I didn't have to bake myself. Me mouth is watering. I have a Pavlovian response to the sight of scones.

  8. Camel-toe?

    By the power of Greyskull!

"...then keep zooming out until you notice"

    until you notice what?

btw, what was wrong with his cookies?
Perhaps from a distance they looked like Charlie Chaplin or something.

  9. Wish we could have made it, but we've got a houseguest just now -- and we've also acquired another child. And boy, did it rain here!

I'd have rather been in Kirkcudbright, eating cookies, but there it is...

  10. Pat - the fund is definitely growing. If he continues at this pace he will easily pay for his ski trip and may even start putting money towards the next big thing

Eryl - Meg would love to show you how to twirl ribbons

Sam - Meg's wellies have a picture of marshmallows all over them.

Tell me, up on the isles, do they pronounce it skons, skowns or skoones (it's definitely skons in this house)?

Annie - well I was suggesting to Rogan that in a few years he should take a gap year when leaving school. He could travel round the world and stay with bloggers I know and in return for a couch to crash on, he could bake cakes

Pendullum - the gazebo was £11.95 from Woolworths and put together like a cheap tent. Fortunately I realised that if we erceted the roof first, we could build the rest of it in the rain and stay dryish. Taking it down in the pouring rain, however, left us all drenched.

Dr Maroon - were you the only one to notice my camel-toe reference, or the only one to comment?

Nowt wrong with his cookies, but completely unsuitable for anyone watching their blood sugar.

Mary - well at least the weather was better today (Wednesday), although apparently it's set to chuck it down tonight and for the foreseeable future.
