Festive wishes

.
For several years now, in fact ever since I first got a copy of Photoshop, I've been one of those people who likes to create their own Christmas image to send to friends. This often consists of the kids in santa hats, or an arty shot of a sprig of holly or some such thing.

I'd been wondering about what to create this year when I was picking Meg up from her last day of school. As we were walking home, the sun had just set and the sky was glorious. I glanced down the high street and was struck by the shape of the roofs and the clock tower against the sky and the Christmas lights hanging across the street.

Perfect, I thought.

Whatever your beliefs, customs, practices and circumstances, I wish you all the very best for the season.

Have a good one :)

  1. Same here from us, Kim! It was great seeing all of you the other night and we're glad you made it home safely given all the ice on the streets.

Now I'm going to go treat myself to one of Maggie's truffles for breakfast if the others have left me any. Come to think of it, they have: I pinched one and hid it last night. Glad I had the presence of mind to do that.

  6. Mary - I think you did well to hide one of the truffles - personally they bring out the hoarder in me and I find myself growling at people if they go near them :)

Christina - thank you, and all the best to you all :)

    FMC - have a good one :)

Carole - Merry Christmas to your family in St Louis. And may 2008 be the year you learn to spell my surname correctly ;)

Jeff - All the best to you, Mauzy and Nash :)

  8. It looks beautiful! The shapes of the rooftops tell me you live in an area of rich architectural history.

Have a great Christmas Day...it's already upon you!

We just got back from the store, stopped off at a trattoria and had some pizza. We've finished buying the last of the gifts, now it's time to get the blower out and get rid of the leaves outside, and then do a bit of tidying for "santa."

Give the best to the family!

  15. a christmas carol - tom lehrer

Christmas time is here, by golly,
    Disapproval would be folly.
Deck the halls with hunks of holly,
Fill the cup and don't say when.

Kill the turkeys, ducks and chickens,
Mix the punch, drag out the Dickens.
    Even though the prospect sickens,
    Brother, here we go again.

On Christmas Day you can't get sore,
Your fellow man you must adore.
There's time to rob him all the more
The other three hundred and sixty-four.

    Relations, sparing no expense, 'll
    Send some useless old utensil,
Or a matching pen and pencil.
("Just the thing I need, how nice!")

It doesn't matter how sincere it is,
Nor how heart felt the spirit,
    Sentiment will not endear it,
    What's important is the price.

    Hark, the Herald Tribune sings,
    Advertising wondrous things.
    God rest ye merry merchants,
May ye make the Yuletide pay.
Angels we have heard on high,
Tell us to go out and buy!

So, let the raucous sleigh bells jingle,
Hail our dear old friend Kris Kringle,
Driving his reindeer across the sky.
Don't stand underneath when they fly by.

  21. Wow, I have spelled it wrong forever. And you kept quiet for so long. I apologize. Ayres it is. I may have mispronounced it as well, but at least you don't know that because you have never heard me blather on about you to the family.

  22. Thank you all for your Festive wishes. And for those in California, Florida and the Southern Hemisphere, one day I plan on finding out what Christmas in the sun and warmth is like.

    Michael - bah humbug!

Carole - There are many different spellings including Eyres, Eyers, Ayers, Aires, but it is pronounced like "airs" :)
