“How much fun will it be trying to become an internationally renowned, sought after portrait photographer?” is a much better way of putting it.
It reminds me it is all about the journey.
The destination is a side effect, not the purpose.

ReplyDeleteGlad you have this already figured out Kim. I spent weeks suffering from success (and it was a relatively small one), only to discover the reason why. Its not reaching goals that make me happy, or 'achieving' (*winces*) Its the little everyday things like smiling with people, connecting deeply, having cups of tea (or coffee) and a good natter, or hugging the kid.
Any fool knows this, but when you set your sights high its hard to appreciate the everyday sometimes.
By the way, (in regards to the last comment on your last post) I try to be completely honest in my feedback about your art, and I think I am a reasonable judge, I hope so anyway :)
So true, Mr Beard. I'm constantly reminding myself of this. It's all in the spirit of the game!

You are more amazingly awesome than you even realize. This goes right in hand with the old saying "Happiness is having a job you love." I have always felt bad for people who have a job that is just something to do between weekends.

Ron - as this blog is full of whatever happens to be on my mind at the time, and this exhibition is definitely on my mind a great deal, so you can be sure of plenty more posts to come about it. In fact there might be a problem writing about anything else...
Chocolatesa - you need to get a few friends and colleagues to all chip in a couple of hundred dollars each to pay for the flights over for me and the family for a couple of weeks, and then I'll do photo sessions in return :)
