Happy New Year!

Well, who’d have thought it? We’ve survived another year!

The end of the world was predicted last year by Harold Camping. Twice in fact – after the rapture failed to materialise in May, he said he meant October really. But ultimately he went on to join that great long list of people who’ve been getting it wrong for thousands of years.

According to some interpretations of the Mayan calendar, 21st December 2012 is when the world will end. Other intepretations say it will just be time to flip it over to the next page...

However, the biggest dilemma will be trying to work out whether it’s worth buying Christmas presents or not - obviously it will be pointless getting them if the prediction is true. But if we hold off until that point just to make sure we haven’t wasted our money and the apocalypse fails to materialise, again – well, we’ll have missed most of the deadlines for ordering online.

Hmmm... decisions, decisions...

Meanwhile, whether the world ends this year or not, I hope each and every one of you has a wonderful 2012.

'Ah fuck the begrudgers' as my Ma says! There's always someone selling doom & gloom.

A very happy New Year to you and all you love Kim. :¬)

Thanks Mapstew - wishing you and yours all the best :)

I say, buy the presents as usual and if the world does end send them back...

May your ascendency in the world of photography continue unabated in 2012 :)

PS proud mother here: have you seen Bob's shot of the pirate flag on RBS Christmas morning all over the internet?

Kim Ayres said...

Ah, refunds! Of course! Why didn't I think of that?

I haven't seen Bob's image - can you give me a link to it?

So sad that these constant false predictions make the actual return of Christ and end of this world as we know it into something to be mocked.
I read often :) And I enjoy your photography. God bless you exceedingly abundantly in this New Year.

I ignore gloomy predictions. In fact if I have one resolution it's to cock a snook at gloom and doom.
Here's hoping that 2012is really happy for you and yours and that you don't get too lucky at Scrabble:)

If you buy gifts and the world ends, it won't be a waste of money because you can't take it with you so you might as well spend it. It would be a waste though if you were to spend it all and the world doesn't end, hahaha.

Happy new year, Kim. I hope you have LOTS of fun AND success with your photographs.

Buy the Christmas presents but put them on the credit card.

I imagine Jesus merely showing up and yelling, "A-ha!" just to see who's been paying attention.

It's just the end of another "round" on the ol' Mayan calendar, so I'll plan for buying those pesky relatives gifts they won't appreciate again this year. Well, except Hubby. Must be why he's fun to buy for.

Happiest of days to you and yours in 2012 on this the 1/2/12 of the year. ;)

If the world ends and I wake up dead, I'll be seriously upset that I bought $5 or $10 worth of gifts.

But I'll worry about that when it happens.

Happy New Year, Kim, and to the entire Ayres clan.

Stephanie - personally, I'm not a believer in any deities (see here for an explanation), however, I appreciate your kind sentiments, and hope 2012 is good to you :)

Allen - thank you - and to you :)

Anna VS - I like the way you think :)

Hope - on this side of the Atlantic, you've just written about February the first, as today's date is 2/1/12 - however, I've been reading American blogs long enough to know what you meant :) Wishing you and your loved ones all the best for the year ahead!

Charlie - Exactly! Who wants their last thoughts to be, "well that was a waste of money!"? ;) Wishing you and Martha all the very best :)

Well, 12/12/12 is my 20th wedding anniversary, so I predict the world will end then! :-)

Kim Ayres said...

Does that mean you're expecting him to screw up your anniversary present? ;)

Kim, I suppose your lack of belief in a deity offers the answer to your biggest dilemma- no need to purchase gifts and celebrate the birth of an individual born 2,000 years ago that (according to your theory) either didn't exist or was a complete lunatic :)
All sarcasm aside, I do pray you experience a personal, life changing encounter with your Maker in this life, before moving onto your eternal life. Again, God bless you.

Kim Ayres said...

I enjoy the midwinter celebrations whatever the religious connotations - see here for more details :)

If any Maker makes him/herself known to me then I'll happily have a chat with him/her and ask which of the many thousands of religions it is I'm supposed to follow. Until that time, however, I'll just have to muddle along my own way and try and ignore the mass of conflicting advice... :)

The best to you also this new year Kim!
