Beginnings

My mother’s looking after the kids on Saturday evening,” she said, casually dropping it into the conversation, as though her mother would quite often have the children to stay over for no particular reason.

Perhaps I’ll pop round, if I’m not doing anything else,” he said, trying to appear nonchalant while his mind raced on how he might get out of his sister’s birthday celebrations.

21 years later and Maggie and I recall how this embarrassing exchange led to the start of our relationship.

Happy anniversary, my love x

Did you just make up that little conversational bit or did you really have it? Because if you did, I am very envious of your memory chip. My brain didn't get one of those. Oh, and Happy Anniversary

Aww, Kim -- and Maggie, that is so sweet! Happy Anniversary, and here's to many more!

(Tried to comment from the university computers last week, but they weren't having any of it. Maybe this week will be better.)

Thanks to each of you for your kind comments.

And yes, the conversation and thoughts behind the words were real - something Maggie and I laugh about when we look back - how we tried to appear cool and nonchalant about the whole thing on the outside while desperately trying to manouevre the situation the way we wanted it :)

I missed this! But every day's a celebration, right? Happy marriage!

I so enjoy the things men say / do in such a seemingly casual manner when they KNOW they are dying to see a gal again :-D

Hindsfeet - thank you :)

Guyana-Gyal - I guess we're too wary about giving away our true feelings in fear of embarrassment. I still remember - seared into my memory, in fact - declaring my feelings to a girl at school, who then yelled, at the top of her voice, so everyone could hear, "EW! NO! I wouldn't go out with you if you were the last boy in the whole world!!! Hey everyone! Do you know what Kim just said?..."

*shudder*

eek...yes, we gals can be pretty mean [mostly as teens though]...
