Connection - an exhibtion in Castle Douglas by Maggie Ayres

.
From April 21st to May 2nd, Maggie has a solo exhibition at the Castle Douglas Art Gallery.

This is the place of her first solo exhibition 2 years ago, so she has a particular fondness for the venue. Over and above the nostalgia, however, the light and space are wonderful and, because it's so close to home, I get to periodically pop across with cups of fresh coffee for her.

To say the run up to this has been hectic and fraught, would be a serious understatement, but somehow we seem to have made it.

If you can come along, we'd love to see you. And if you can tell your friends, that would be wonderful too :)

Wow.
And I thought I could draw.

I'm impressed.

Actually, it reminds me of paintings my parents had, and as a child, I could make no sense of them.
They looked like nonsensical smears of colour on a canvas.
And then, one day, I went out and looked at the hills behind my house.
And recognised the painting.
Wierd, perfect, and brilliant all at the same time.

You can draw - and damn well too - but I confess I have no idea of your skill in textile and mixed media abstract artworks. Certainly I wouldn't attempt it. And I can't draw very well either.

I think I'll stick to the photography, where I have a better sense that I can improve with time and practice :)

I noticed that the run-up included you running away to Wales! :D

I'll pass this on, Kim! You'll understand why we can't make it this year, though. Sigh...

Kim, if I can free up some time at this end, (Kingston Bridge repairs are currently are keeping the wolves from the door) I will certainly attend with the wife.

Would that I could be there. Maybe we can plan on a trip to Canada in the fall!

Best of luck to Maggie for the show!

They are just beautiful and deserve to be widely seen and appreciated. A visual delight.

Tom P - it was a good trip, but bad timing for this

Mary - you mean you're not leaping on the next flight back? Ok, you'll need to start investigating the possibility of an exhibtion in your neck of the sands.

Jimmy - if you can make it down this way, be sure to let me know and I'll make sure the kettle's on :)

Brave Astronaut - thank you :)

Pat - thanks for your warm words :)

I love the quality of Maggie's work---the way all the elements relate and move through the space, her use of form, texture and color. Would that I loved closer. I would come.

It's quite quiet at the moment, but then dull, rainy weekdays don't tend to be the busiest time. Expecting more at the weekend
